What dog food is the best for your dog? Unless your Vet has suggested any particular brand or a medical specialty diet, the choice is really whatever brand you like, so long as the food has the AAFCO marking. That marking shows that the food follows the guidelines of the Association of American Feed Control Officials. This ensures standards of ingredients and nutritional values, and sometimes adjusts for the age of the dog. Food that meets this level is fine for your dog.
But what about natural diets? Or Grain-Free? Or the latest package with lots of glossy photos online?
Those can be fine, but it is really just marketing. Plain Purina kibble from your local supermarket is just as fine for your dog as any of the $40 a bag types. It *is* recommended to feed puppies a richer diet manufactured for puppies — and Purina Puppy Chow is more than adequate for that stage. But so long as the food meets the AAFCO standards, any are fine.
The way I have always seen it, that savings in kibble can be spent on treats and toys. The dogs win out either way 🙂
Happy Dogging!
